Browned Butter Popcorn
Browned butter adds a caramel-ly, nutty, buttery flavor to the salted popcorn and takes it to the next level.
Yield: a giant bowl of popcorn enough for 4-6 people
Time: 5-10 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup popcorn kernels
- just shy of 1 tablespoon salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, brown 1 stick of butter stirring non-stop with a heat-proof spatula. Once browned, immediately remove from heat to stop the cooking. Using a pyrex heat-proof measuring cup, pour 1/4 cup of the melted brown butter into a large 10 quart saucepan. Set the rest of the brown butter aside.
- To the large saucepan with the hot butter, add the popcorn kernels and shake to coat the kernels in the butter. Cover with a lid.
- Turn the heat on medium heat and shake the pot once the kernels start popping. Once the popping slows, remove from heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
- Pour a tablespoon of the rest of the browned butter on the popcorn with a small shake of the tablespoon of salt (don't pour all the salt). Stir. Repeat between butter and salt until you've added your desired amount. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes:
You can drizzle chocolate on the popcorn or add chocolate candies on top.
